Written in the spring of 2022 after we had to put our third dog Hannah to sleep, thus ending four decades of dog ownership for us. We’re going to get another dog some day, but it will be a while, so in the interim our house is indeed devoid of that special canine magic. I’m not afraid to admit that the sadness expressed in the lyrics is completely genuine.
The music was composed entirely in Logic. I really wanted to keep the music simple and repetitive and focus more on the lyrics, and the story they told. I have shared this with a number of folks after they lost a pooch, and it seems to offer some comfort.
NOTE: This song was reimagined and remixed as “Texas Dogs” in July of 2023 for the Tales from Topographic Texas album.
